Fundo Ambiental: Portuguese Government supports acquiring new e-bikes!
What is the Fundo Ambiental e-bike incentive?
The Portuguese Government, through the Fundo Ambiental, is again funding the purchase of new electric bikes in 2026. The goal is simple: cut carbon emissions, improve air quality and reduce noise in our cities by helping more people switch to clean, active transport.
In practice, this means the State pays part of your new e-bike. If you've been thinking about making the change, this is the moment to do it.
This is the 2nd phase of the Mobilidade Verde – Passageiros programme (notice AAC N.º 06/2025), with a total budget of €10 million.
How much support can you get in 2026?
The incentive covers 50% of the retail price (including VAT), capped according to the type of bike:
City / urban electric bike 50%, up to €750
Electric cargo bike: 50%, up to €1.500
Key dates — and why timing matters
Applications open: 11 June 2026
Applications close: 27 July 2026, at 17h59
Eligible invoices: any purchase invoiced from 1 January 2025
Funding is limited — there are 2,000 incentives for city e-bikes and 833 for cargo bikes. Applications close as soon as the budget runs out, whichever comes first.
Apply early. These incentives are first-come, first-served and historically run out well before the closing date.
How to apply — step by step
Submit your application on the Fundo Ambiental platform during the application window.
Wait for approval — you'll be notified by email if an incentive is still available and you meet the conditions.
Buy your eligible e-bike (invoice dated 1 January 2025 or later).
Within 3 months of approval, accept the terms and submit your payment request with the required documents.
Get reimbursed — the incentive is paid directly to your IBAN.
Required Documents
- Identification, including a Portuguese national ID (or residence number) card and Tax Identification Number (NIF);
- A proof from the Autoridade Tributária Aduaneira (Customs Tax Authority) proving that there is a regular Tax income regulation;
- An IBAN bank reference that bears the candidate's name to where the support will be transferred;
- A sales statement by the bicycle dealer, mentioning the vehicle in question is designed for urban use of cargo transportation.
The verdict is directly communicated to the candidate by email.
