ABOUT THE EXPERIENCE

THINGS TO KNOW

Read the essentials, choose your dates, and book when everything feels right.

    • Premium e-bike rental from Porto to Santiago

    • All the essential equipment

    • Bike-fit

    • Return of the bikes

You are booking a premium electric bike prepared for the Porto → Santiago journey, including essential equipment, a pre-ride briefing, bike fit, return of the bikes, and CICLO support.

Route planning or self-guided services can be added if you want more help.

  • Well, it depends.

    Ballpark? Aim for 7 days.

We did it in 5 and, by the end, regretted not taking 7. Even though it’s doable, the extra kilometres start to add up halfway through the journey, especially with the north wind against you and the final climbs, which tend to be the toughest.

If you’re unsure, speak with us.
Book a planning call, and we’ll take the time to understand you, your pace, your doubts, and what you want from the journey. From there, we’ll help you shape a Camino plan that feels right for you, with care, experience, and honest guidance from people who have done it and know what the road really asks of you.

    • Accommodations

    • Meals

    • Personal travel insurance

    • Your transport back to Porto

    • Luggage transfers or storage

If you’re looking for a more complete and effortless experience, book a 45-minute planning call with a CICLO specialist or upgrade to a self-guided Camino.

The best way to do it is to book a call with us, where we’ll understand your journey and thoughtfully design every detail around you.

Alternatively, you can choose our self-guided experience, where everything is already carefully curated so you can simply arrive and focus on what truly matters: the ride, the places, and the experience itself.

  • Shop pick-up (near Luís I Bridge). This allows us to do a full bike fitting, check and advise the pannier setup, and run a test ride, ensuring maximum comfort and the best support.

The return of the e-bikes is included in the full price, at a convenient meeting point (ideally your hotel or a central location) collecting the bikes and accessories.

  • Our e-bikes are equipped with Bosch batteries of up to 625Wh, designed for long days on the Camino.

In most cases, a single charge is enough for a full day of riding. That said, range always depends on factors such as elevation, wind (especially the north wind along the coast) rider weight, the assistance level you choose, and other conditions.

You should expect a range of around 60 to 80 km.

We recommend charging the battery overnight at your accommodation and, whenever possible, during lunch (giving you more freedom to ride in a higher assistance level throughout the day.)

If you’re ever unsure about range or how to manage your battery during the journey, we’re here to guide you so you can ride with confidence, not concern.

  • The rental price is €90 per e-bike, per day.

Bikes are picked up at our shop in Porto, located near the Luís I Bridge (Rua General Torres 24).

If you prefer to finish your journey in Santiago without returning to Porto, we offer a bike collection service in Santiago.

    • The service has a minimum cost of €200 per booking

    • For two or more riders, this typically comes to €100 per bike

This way, you can focus on the journey, and we’ll take care of bringing the bikes back.

  • Our bikes are adjustable to fit almost any size, whether you're short, tall, male or female.
As long as you're over 1.50 meters (4ft9) tall and under 140kg (310lbs), you're all set to ride!

  • Like any rental service, we will ask for a valid ID or Passport and a credit card authorization of 500€ per e-bike.

To ensure the safety and performance of the bikes throughout your journey, they must be stored overnight in a secure, indoor space at your accommodation.

Still unsure? We’re happy to help you decide.

general

  • If you’re not sure what to pack, keep it simple and focus on comfort and weather protection.

    • Clothing: Comfortable, breathable layers you can pedal in. Avoid long, loose items that could catch on the bike.

    • Shoes: Closed-toe shoes with a firm sole (sneakers, proper cycling, or light walking shoes).

    • Weather: A light rain jacket or windbreaker is strongly recommended year-round. Weather conditions can change quickly.

    • Essentials: Water bottle, sunglasses, sunscreen, and small snacks.

    • Phone & navigation: A fully charged smartphone. A power bank is very helpful.

    • Personal items: Any medication you may need, and a small amount of cash for cafés/stops.

  • Our touring e-bikes use 625Wh batteries (or higher, depending on the model). Typical real-world range is 80–100 km per charge, depending on terrain, wind, rider weight, luggage, and assist level.
To maximize range, use Eco/Tour on flat boardwalks and save Turbo for steeper climbs.
We provide chargers for overnight charging or mid-day top-ups, when outlets are available.

  • Yes. Every bike comes with a full repair and emergency kit, prepared specifically for the Camino.

    Each bike includes:

    • Spare inner tubes

    • Patches

    • Tyre levers

    • Mini pump

    • Multi-tool with chain tool

    • Reflective vest

The idea is simple: small issues should never become big problems. We prepare the bikes so you can ride with confidence and feel ready for the unexpected along the way.

  • To ensure the safety and performance of the bikes throughout the journey, they must stay overnight in a secure, indoor location at your accommodation and cannot be left outside overnight.

Most hotels and accommodations along the Camino are already used to hosting cyclists and usually have a garage, storage room, or dedicated indoor space for bikes. If you are ever unsure about a place, we are happy to help you confirm it beforehand.

equipment & safety

  • We strongly recommend booking in advance, especially during peak months (April–October), as availability is limited.

While last-minute bookings may be possible, planning ensures we can prepare everything properly for your journey.

  • To confirm your booking, a deposit is required, 50% of the total value.
The remaining balance can be settled closer to the start of your rental.
We’ll guide you through the process and make everything simple and transparent.

  • Most likely, yes.

If your plans evolve, we’ll do our best to accommodate changes to your rental duration, subject to availability.
We recommend letting us know as early as possible so we can adjust everything smoothly.

  • Well, it depends.

As a general recommendation, we believe 7 days offers the best balance between riding, resting, and truly experiencing the Camino.

It is possible to do it faster. We did it ourselves in 5 days, but by the end, we regretted not allowing more time. The extra kilometres start to add up, especially with the north wind along the coast and the more demanding elevation in the final stages.

Booking & payment

  • Bikes are picked up at our shop in Porto, located near the lower platform of Luís I Bridge:

Before the ride begins, we take the time to properly fit the bike to you, explain how everything works, and answer any final questions, so you start the Camino feeling confident and fully prepared.

  • Rental is bike-only. You are free to choose your own route, daily distances, and where you stay each night.

If you’re riding to Santiago, we recommend planning your stages and ensuring your accommodation can store the bike safely and provide access to charging.

  • You have a few comfortable options:

    • Private transfer (recommended): a premium private van back to Porto (time varies with traffic. Consider roughly ~2.5–3 hours on the road.)

    • Public transport: bus or train options typically take longer (often around 4+ hours total).
If you choose the train, note that the Porto–Vigo Celta requires seat reservations and has limited capacity.

    • We can advise on logistics and bike handling depending on the option you choose.

  • No. Our e-bikes cannot be transported on ferries or boats.

These operators do not provide insurance for electric bikes, and even small impacts during loading or transport can damage sensitive components such as the transmission system, wheels, or frame.

For that reason, bikes must remain on the land route throughout the journey. Please note that transporting the bikes by ferry or boat against our policy may result in the loss of the security deposit.

logistics

  • The best time to ride is between March and November.
Spring and early autumn (March–June, September–November) offer the best balance of mild weather, fewer crowds, and more enjoyable riding conditions. Summer is also possible, but it can be hotter and busier.

  • Absolutely, and you should.

That’s the essence of the Camino. You’re free to ride at your own pace, stop when you feel like it, and take in the moments along the way, whether that’s a coffee, a quiet chapel, another pilgrim, or simply the view.

This is not about rushing. It’s about experiencing the journey.

  • You don’t need to be an experienced cyclist.

If you’re comfortable riding a bike and have a reasonable level of fitness, you’ll be able to enjoy the journey. The e-bike assistance makes a big difference, especially on longer days or climbs.

That said, it’s still a multi-day ride, so being prepared for a few hours on the bike each day is important.

  • Around 80% of the time, yes.

Whenever it makes sense, we follow the official Camino route used by walking pilgrims. However, some sections are simply not ideal for bikes, either because of stairs, rough terrain, narrow paths, or safety concerns.

In those moments, you should carefully select cycling alternatives that reconnect with the Camino shortly after. These adjustments make the ride smoother, safer, and more enjoyable, without losing the essence of the journey.

route & experience

  • Cyclists must complete at least 200km by bicycle with a stamped pilgrim credential to qualify.

We recommend checking the current Pilgrim Office rules before departure and collecting stamps throughout the journey.

  • Yes, if you would like to receive the Compostela certificate in Santiago, you will need a pilgrim credential.

The credential is stamped along the route and serves as proof of your journey. For cyclists, the Cathedral requires at least 200 km completed by bike in order to receive the Compostela.

If needed, we are happy to guide you on where to obtain the credential, or get it for you, and how the process works before you start your ride.

  • Yes, the Camino is generally very well marked.

Along the route, you will regularly find the traditional yellow arrows and Camino signs guiding the way. That said, when riding by bike, some sections and crossings can still create doubts, especially in cities or where cycling alternatives diverge from the walking path.

For that reason, we also provide a carefully prepared GPX route to make navigation simple and stress-free throughout the journey.
