  • These terms and conditions regulate the agreement and civil responsibilities between the customer and CICLO - URBAN MICROMOBILITY, LDA, PT515198790, for the provision of bicycle and equipment rental and guided tours, for the period established within the contract.

    1. All bikes and equipment rented to customers remain the exclusive property of CICLO - URBAN MICROMOBILITY, LDA and are intended for the agreed specified purpose and duration only and must be returned in the original state that was provided.

    2. CICLO is responsible for maintaining and delivering an e-bike and equipment that is fit and safe for cycling. We advise all clients to test the e-bike and report any defect/malfunction as soon as it is detected in the beginning of the journey so that we can repair or provide a replacement.

    3. On return of the equipment, customers are required to report any noises or malfunctions noted during their journey in order for CICLO to assess if it was an equipment normal malfunction or caused by damage and so that the bike can be repaired on time and safe for the next reservation holder. Failure to report malfunctions may suggest it was a client fault damage to equipment and incur in penalty.

    4. In the event of loss, theft, or damage of the electric bikes or equipment, by customer fault, CICLO is entitled to charge a maximum compensation of:

      • 100% of the recommended retail price of the electric bike;

      • 100% of the recommended retail price of the component damaged;

      • The hourly labour rate for repairs is €40;

      • The transportation cost of the bike back to shop between €30 and €60.

    5. Photo identification and a valid credit card are required for bike rental or tour reservation on pick-up of the bike. Acceptable forms of photo identification are a passport, citizen ID card and driver license. A deposit is required for bike rentals but not for tours.

    6. Bike riders must have a minimum height of 1.50 meters (4.9 feet) and a maximum weight of 140kg (308 pounds).

    7. Minors must be accompanied by an adult who will sign a statement of responsibility.

    8. Fitness to cycle:

      • E-bikes assist your pedal power by aid of an electric motor which only works if you pedal. They do not have a throttle or work without any pedal effort and that is why they give you the natural bike riding sensation. You just feel stronger than normal. You can adapt the amount of assistance you want by changing modes and we find that our Bosch motors are generally powerful enough for the steepest hills with light to moderate effort which can be further adapted with our easy gear shifters.

      • E-bikes allow people with minor physical health limitations or fitness to be able to still enjoy a bike tour by reducing the amount of effort needed to put in and keep up with other people. They are less demanding on your joints than normal bikes.

      • Pregnancy is not a medical contraindication for cycling, but please consider it is not advisable to take cycling activities, particularly on the last trimester as some sections of the road may be bumpy, have cobblestones pavement or require additional effort.

      • Tours have different levels of effort required, please see the tour description and contact us if you have doubts about a specific tour. In general if you have doubts, take one that states “easy” first or contact us to arrange a test before the day of the tour.

      • By reserving a tour or bike you are declaring to be fit for cycling, meaning, not suffering from any medical diseases or symptoms that may impair the riding capability or exacerbate an existent disease. You do not need a doctors certificate because you are self certifying.

      • You should not take a cycling activity if you have been advised against it by your doctor.

      • It’s forbidden to ride a bike under the influence of toxic substances such as alcohol, drugs or medication that impairs safe riding.

      • We reserve the right to not rent a bike or allow a customer to take or continue a tour, if we observe signs that cause us concerns about the customer physical or mental health capability. We do not refund payments arising from these concerns as it is the responsibility of the client to present fit for the activity. We will aim to use good judgment if such cases arise and reach an agreement with the client around the basis for any tour cancelation.

    9. Competency and safety regulations.

      • The customer declares to be able to properly ride a bicycle and be competent to ride on the road, near other vehicles.

      • The customer declares to respect Portuguese road traffic regulations and traffic light signs. Please see our blog page about traffic regulations for full details. The most important points to note:

        1. The use of helmet is mandatory for electric bikes. It isn’t for none motor assisted vehicles.

        2. Signal well ahead before changes of direction.

        3. Respect road traffic lights.

        4. Bikes can ride on the road even if a cycle path is available. Cars are required to give 1.50m side distance when overtaking but be mindful about your safety and polite sharing the road.

        5. Bikes can’t ride on sidewalks. It is however common to see tourists and locals using some wide sections of sidewalks near the riverfront, instead of riding along with car traffic, this is usually done for sightseeing reasons and at low speed, respecting nearby walkers and because many cycle paths are also integrated in sidewalks by painted lines. When there are no cycle paths on sidewalks to justify bike riding, consider the presence of nearby walkers and if it is not sensible/safe to stay on the bike, dismount and walk the bike for sightseeing or go on the road for commuting.

      • Customers are liable for any fines resulting from breach of traffic regulations by them. At no point is CICLO liable for misconduct or misinterpretation of rules.

  • TOUR BOOKINGS INCLUDE:

    • A guide in the language specified on the tour, English if not otherwise mentioned;

    • An electric bike that is fit and complies with all safety regulations;

    • If as a result of abuse or equipment failure by customer fault, a bike becomes defective and unable to be repaired in a time appropriate manner to continue the tour, no refund or rescheduling is entitled and the customer is liable for the transportation and damaged equipment costs.

    • CICLO reserves the right to judge the capacities and abilities of a participant/rider before the use of an electric bicycle. See general terms and conditions.

    • If the participant decides to abandon the tour before the first stop, the participant doesn’t incur in any extra costs and doesn’t have the right to a refund or rescheduling.
