HELMETS FOR ALL

Searching for the ideal helmet can take time, and rightfully so.

With numerous sizes, shapes, and brands catering to various preferences, the quest is usually for the helmet that becomes a constant companion, much like our trusty electric bicycle.

Wearing a helmet is a non-negotiable safety practice.

There's no excuse to skip it, especially considering the multitude of options available.

TO CONSIDER

Cooling: Helmets should facilitate proper airflow for both commuting and longer rides. The number of air entrances and exits is crucial for effective ventilation.

Weight: Optimal helmets are lightweight and comfortable, creating a seamless union with the skull. Modern designs often feature a single plasticized shell with interior sponges and foams, prioritizing aerodynamics for a lighter feel.

Shape: Plastic construction aids in allowing the helmet to slide in the event of a fall, offering crucial protection against attrition and rotational forces. Enhanced safety systems, like MIPS (Multi-Directional Impact Protection System), provide an additional layer inside the helmet to rotate with the head during impact, mitigating brain injuries.

TO CONSIDER

Lights: Helmets should include a light system for visibility, even basic ones are superior to riding without any illumination. Reflectors add passive security, and some brands offer advanced light systems with directional signaling.

Extras: Additional features such as earpads for cold weather, visors for eye protection against wind and dust, rain covers to prevent water entry, detachable magnetic straps, and removable lids for securing the helmet with the bike are interesting additions, though not necessarily deal-breakers.

MODELS

POLISPORT E-CITY

Compatible with heads ranging from 55 to 58 cm and weighing around 375g, the E-City helmet from the Portuguese brand POLISPORT is an excellent entry-level option for electric bikes.

It is designed to accommodate "high-speed" bicycles.

The helmet provides extensive coverage, including both sides of the head, the chin and jaw, and the back of the head.

Its "breathing" system comprises 12 air entries for effective ventilation.

Featuring fast-adjustment straps, a rear ring for head halo adjustment, reflectors, and a simple light with static or flashing modes, the E-City helmet offers a comprehensive set of capabilities.

ABUS PEDELEC 2.0 ACE

In the urban segment, ABUS introduces the Pedelec 2.0 ACE as a top-tier option.

Available in three sizes: S (390g), M (410g), and L (430g), it is well-suited for "high-speed bikes."

Notable details include a mosquito net in the air entries, magnetic straps, and a rear adjustment ring for added comfort.

THOUSAND CHAPTER

The THOUSAND Chapter bears the MIPS system, which is a fantastic addition: it reduces the head rotation in case of an accident, directing those rotational forces to the outside of the helmet.

It’s perfectly suitable for any electric bicycle.

The THOUSAND Chapter has 8 ventilation entries.

It has three sizes: S, weighing 360g; M, com 370g; and L, with 410g.

The rear light can be detached thanks to a magnetic mount that we can use to place in the rear of our bike for a nice taillight. It has 30 lumens and can last 1 hour, if static, or 2 hours if flashing.

The front visor can be replaced for many fashion options, all optional.

As details, we highlight the secret detachable lid that allows us to lock the helmet with the bicycle using the same lockers, magnetic straps, and a rear adjustment ring.
